The 3rd COMAC International Science and Technology Innovation Week opened

To talk about bright future for intelligent manufacturing of civil aircraft

The opening ceremony of the 3nd COMAC International Science and Technology Innovation Week themed with "Intelligent Manufacturing Based on Digital Transformation" was held at the Assembly Manufacturing Center of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) on September 2nd, 2019. Nearly 100 experts from more than 70 domestic and foreign scientific research institutions, colleges and universities, and cooperative enterprises gathered together to collect wisdom, exchange ideas, explore cooperation and talk about the bright future for intelligent manufacturing of civil aircraft.

Mr. He Dongfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of COMAC, Mr. Zhao Yuerang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of COMAC, Mr. Tao Zhi, Vice President of Beihang University, Mr. Andrew McIntyre, Vice President of Monash University, Mr. Thomas Bauernhansl, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, Mr. Zhao Qinping, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Former Vice-Minister of Ministry of Education, attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Tan Wangeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of COMAC, presided over the opening ceremony. Mr. Zhou Xinmin, Member of Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of COMAC, also attended the ceremony.

Mr. Zhao Yuerang expressed in his speech that at present, the industrial Internet, big data, artificial intelligence and other new technologies were booming, and a new round of industrial revolution was imminent, which had brought new opportunities for the development of the commercial aircraft industry. COMAC had striven to research and develop safer, cost-effective, comfortable and environment-friendly aircraft, provide more choices for customers, and provide Chinese solutions for the development of world aviation industry. Government, enterprises, colleges and universities, and investment institutions were invited to participate in the COMAC International Science and Technology Innovation Week to have in-depth dialogues on government, industry, education, research and integration, and share opportunities for the innovation and development of commercial aircraft industry.

Mr. Tao Zhi expressed the hope that each side could enhance exchanges to learn from each other, integrate resources to complement each other, further lay the foundation for deepening cooperation, and continuously strengthen collaborative innovation. Beihang University would actively serve the national civil aviation development strategy, continuously strengthen personnel training and scientific research & innovation in the industry, and accelerate the transformation and industrialization of research achievements to contribute the wisdom and strength of Beihang University to realizing the high quality development of civil aviation.

Mr. Andrew McIntyre expressed that Monash University was honored to take part in this Innovation Week. Small-scale cooperative study between Monash University and COMAC in early stage had begun; and substantial resources would be devoted to achieving significant results through transnational cooperation with the best partners.

Mr. Thomas Bauernhansl pointed out that in an era of digital transformation, nothing is more important than cooperation. No single company or country could develop all the technologies on its own and achieve the success of digital transformation in all markets. This Innovation Week had provided a great platform for each side to come together and discuss the bright future of digital transformation.

At the opening ceremony, Monash University, Beihang University and COMAC signed an MOU on Deepening Cooperation. Mr. Zhou Xinmin, Mr. Zhao Qinping, Mdm Wu Xinhua, Vice President of Monash University and Fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and Mr. Thomas Bauernhansl made a keynote speech respectively.

The 3rd COMAC International Science and Technology Innovation Week will last for one week, consist of several sections such as COMAC innovation forum, workshops, science & technology innovation exhibition and exchange, financial docking and contract negotiation, and strive to seek industrial innovation and technological progress through all-round and multi-angle in-depth exchanges.
