The opening ceremony of the 12th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (also known as Airshow China 2018) was held in Zhuhai on November 6th, 2018. This is the sixth time for Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) to attend Airshow China as one of the sponsors. A 1:1 mockup of CR929 aircraft made its debut on the airshow, three ARJ21 aircraft with paintings of different airlines conducted demonstration flight, forming a spectacle of "three aircraft gathering in Zhuhai", and the advanced cockpit systems of C919 aircraft were shown to the public in the form of Virtual Reality (VR).

This airshow was held on the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of COMACCOMAC had adhered to the development concept of "Innovation, Pioneering and Creation", made a historic leap in China's business jet industry from nothing to something, and steadily pushed China's commercial aircraft industry into a new stage of marketization development.

ARJ21 aircraft has broken the situation of there being no China-made jets on Chinese airlines. Three ARJ21 aircraft with the paintings of Chengdu Airlines, Genghis Khan Airlines and Urumqi Air have lined up on the parking apron at the site of the airshow, waiting to conduct demonstration flights on the first day of the airshow. COMAC have delivered eight ARJ21 aircraft to Chengdu Airlines, and the aircraft have successively flown the routes to 20 cities including Changsha, Hefei, Shangrao and Shanghai, and accumulatively carried more than 180,000 passengers. COMAC has signed a purchase agreement of ARJ21 aircraft with Genghis Khan Airlines on October 15th. As planned, COMAC will deliver the first batch of ARJ21 aircraft to Genghis Khan Airlines by the end of this year. Genghis Khan Airlines plans to build a fleet of about 25 aircraft which are entirely China-made jets within five years. HNA Group Co., Ltd. has signed a purchase agreement of 20 ARJ21 aircraft at the Farnborough International Airshow this year, and the 20 aircraft will be operated by Urumqi Air of HNA Group. COMAC is willing to work with airlines in the future to explore and practice the business mode of combining trunk and regional lines, which is suitable for the specific situations of China, based on the operational characteristics of ARJ21 aircraft in different regions and different route structures, explore potential to create market, and make contributions to improving the air transportation efficiency and accessibility in China.

After 10 years of hard work, COMAC has completed the program demonstration, feasibility study, overall program definition, preliminary design, detailed design and overall trial production of C919 program, and completed the maiden flight of C919 aircraft on May 5th, 2017, which indicates a historic breakthrough in China's aviation industry. At present, the program has entered into flight test and certification phase, and the scientific research and the production of development batch aircraft are pushed forward in order. As planned, COMAC will put six test aircraft into flight test in the development batch. At present, AC101 and AC102 are carrying out flight test based on Yanliang of Xi'an, Dongying of Shandong and Nanchang of Jiangxi, AC103 has completed the engine ignition test and endeavors to complete the maiden flight by the end of the year. Meanwhile, two C919 aircraft for ground tests are respectively carrying out the work such as static test and fatigue test. The total orders have amounted to 815 now. COMAC has signed a C919 First Customer Framework Agreement with China Eastern Airlines during the last Airshow China, and China Eastern Airlines has become the world's first customer of C919 aircraft.

This is the first time for the mockup of CR929 aircraft to be displayed on an international airshow, and the first-class cockpit and comfortable cabin of CR929 aircraft are shown to the public. The three-year early demonstration of CR929 program has been completed, and the program has entered the preliminary design phase now. The Joint Concept Definition Phase (JCDP) of CR929 engine and main airborne systems was officially kicked off on March 22nd this yeary. COMAC and United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) jointly determined the main parameters of CR929, such as overall shape and dimension, on June 6th, 2018, and the chief designers of both sides signed the drawings officially. As the main organization for implementing CR929 program, China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Co., Ltd (CRAIC) has been established in Shanghai on May 22nd, 2017, and it is currently in smooth operation.

Since establishment, COMAC has overcome difficulties, forged ahead with determination, basically experienced the overall research and development process of passenger jet, and started the exploration of product management. COMAC has listened to the customers' opinions and market feedback in a timely manner after the delivery for operation of the ARJ21 aircraft, and constantly optimized the details of the aircraft, so as to improve the comfortability of passengers and provide support for route operation. In order to further improve the batch production capacity of ARJ21 aircraft, COMAC has taken a number of measures to continuously optimize the assembly layout and technological process of ARJ21 aircraft, and applied a number of intelligent manufacturing technologies such as AR assisted assembly and automated butt joint to the production site. At the same time, the company has paid close attention to product quality, implemented product quality requirements with the method of "four irons", i.e. "iron discipline, iron requirement, iron means and iron accountability", adopted the method of "returning to zero in technology and management" based on system engineering, and established safety management system to strictly control product quality and steadily advance the marketization and industrialization process of regional jets.

With ten years of innovation and development, COMAC has moved from its initial stage to its growth stage and entered a new development stage. Based on its own development and accumulation in the past ten years, the company has preliminarily determined the target and overall arrangement for the new stage based on the strong market demand in the future. COMAC will focus on the development of the three aircraft programs, strive to break through the key core technologies, give full play to the driving role of China-made trunk liner, accelerate the technological innovation and progress of commercial aircraft in China, promote the continuous improvement in core competence of commercial aircraft industry in China, and promote the development of commercial aircraft industry in China.

During the airshow, COMAC will release the Market Forecast Report (2018-2037), sign an ARJ21 aircraft purchase agreement with SPDB Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. and an ARJ21 aircraft receiving agreement with Urumqi Air, and host the 3rd International Civil Aircraft Flight Test Symposium and the 2nd National Symposium on Development of Future Civil Aircraft. Zhuifeng Studio of COMAC Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute will show a 1:46 model of Blended Wing-Body (BWB) type aircraft and a 1:32 model of Truss-Braced-Wing (TBW) airliner which represent future commercial aircraft technology.

The opening ceremony of Airshow China 2018 was held on November 6th, 2018.
