3rd International Civil Aircraft Flight Test Symposium held in Zhuhai

The 3rd International Civil Aircraft Flight Test Symposium hosted by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) was held in Zhuhai on November 5th, 2018. This symposium was themed on "Promoting Safe and Efficient Flight Test by Innovation". The developing trend of commercial aircraft flight test was predicted and hot topics of commercial aircraft flight test were discussed at the symposium. There were more than 200 experts and scholars from 55 domestic and foreign government agencies, aeronautical colleges, scientific research institutions and societies in nine countries, such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC), Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA) and International Test Pilot School (ITPS) of Canada, attending the symposium. Mr. Wu Guanghui, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Vice President of COMAC and Chief Designer of C919 Program, Mr. Xi Lifeng, Vice President of SJTU, Mr. Yury Ravikovich, Vice President of MAI, attended the symposium and made speeches. Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Civil Aircraft Flight Testing was unveiled at the opening ceremony of the symposium.

Flight test of commercial aircraft is a developmental flight before the aircraft enters into service officially, and is intended to inspect the equipment of the aircraft and verify the performance of the aircraft. Flight test is a compulsory step before a commercial aircraft obtains certificate and is delivered for commercial operation. Nowadays, aviation science and technology are being developed rapidly, many new techniques are being adopted on modern commercial aircraft, and therefore the need for innovation is especially urgent during their certification and flight test. With the aim of "sharing advanced technology and experience and promoting communication and cooperation on flight test", the International Civil Aircraft Flight Test Symposium came into being.

Participants of this symposium would discuss the application of advanced technologies and methods such as virtual flight test, artificial intelligence, big data, system engineering in flight test, and share the successful experience in flight test, ATC assurance, crosswind flight test and water spray test, in order to provide experience and solutions for reducing the risk of flight test, improving the efficiency of flight test and shortening the cycle flight test.

The International Civil Aircraft Flight Test Symposium focuses on the development trend of commercial aircraft flight test technology and key issues in commercial aircraft flight test, and provides a good opportunity for all parties to learn from each other, enhance friendship and develop international cooperation. It is committed to promoting the enhancement of China's commercial aircraft flight test capability and the development of international commercial aircraft industry, and is an international and professional communication platform in the field of flight test. The symposium has been successfully held twice, respectively on November 10th, 2014 and October 31st, 2016. While sharing existing advanced technology and experience, the experts would also discuss the hot issues and future development of commercial aircraft flight test, and would be committed to promoting international cooperation and common development in the field of commercial aircraft manufacturing.
