C919 AC102 flies to Dongying base

Program development officially enters mode of carrying out flight test simultaneously in different places, to receive severe and harsh tests

The second C919 aircraft successfully completed the ferry flight on July 12th, 2018.

 

C919 AC102 took off from Shanghai Pudong Airport at 14:57, and landed at Dongying Shengli Airport in Shandong province after a flight of 1 hour and 46 minutes on July 12th, 2018, successfully completing the first long-distance ferry flight in the air. This indicates that C919 program enters the new phase of concentrated development flight test, officially enters the mode of carrying out flight test simultaneously in different places, and will receive the severe tests in various complex meteorological conditions and the challenge of a series of high-risk test subjects in the future. Mr. He Dongfeng, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) and General Director of C919 Program, Mr. Zhao Yuerang, President of COMAC and Administrative Deputy General Director of C919 Program, and Mr. Wu Guanghui, Vice President of COMAC and Chief Designer of C919 Aircraft, directed the ferry flight on site.

C919 AC102 which flew to Dongying flight test base will mainly undertake the ground test verification and flight tests of power plant, fuel and inerting system, electrical power system and environment control system. As planned, COMAC will put six test aircraft to comprehensively carry out the flight tests related to stall, power, performance, control stability, flight control, icing, high temperature and extreme cold; meanwhile, two aircraft for ground tests will respectively carry out the work such as static test and fatigue test. With the second test aircraft flying to Dongying flight test base, COMAC has officially entered the mode of carrying out C919 flight test collaboratively at "1+M+N" airports in multiple regions. "1" refers to the main flight test base of Shanghai; "M" refers to the secondary flight test bases such as Yanliang airport of Xi'an in Shaanxi province, Dongying Shengli Airport in Shandong province, and Yaohu Lake Airport of Nanchang in Jiangxi province, which will be put into service soon; "N" refers to all kinds of airports suitable for the verification flight test in special meteorological conditions.

COMAC is working hard with Dongying Municipal Government to build Dongying Shengli Airport into a professional civil aircraft flight test base. Dongying flight test base was officially put into service in 2016 and began to undertake part of the delivery flight tests of ARJ21 aircraft. The runway extension project of Dongying Shengli Airport with an investment of 330 million yuan from Dongying Municipal Government was completed at the end of 2017, the runway was extended from the original 2,800 meters to 3,600 meters, and the supporting facilities, such as communication, navigation, lighting and meteorological facilities, were retrofitted, which lays a foundation for the smooth ferry flight of AC102. Dongying has planned an airport industrial area of 18.5 square kilometers relying on the key projects such as Dongying base of Flight Test Center of COMAC (FTCC), Dongying Shengli Airport, and the navigation and flight inspection base of Beihang University, will actively introduce aviation composite materials, avionics, aircraft parts manufacturing and other supporting projects, and is striving to build an international leading industrial center which integrates the functions of civil aircraft supporting, research and development, flight test, delivery, maintenance, modification and training.

There are several aviation enterprises in Shandong province participating in large aircraft programs, among which AVIC Research Institute for Special Structures of Aeronautical Composites is responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of C919 radome; Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Co., Ltd. has obtained ARJ21-700 Aircraft Maintenance Organization Certificate from Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on August 23rd, 2016; Shandong Avic Glory Aviation Standard Parts Co., Ltd. makes rivets for C919 and ARJ21 aircraft; Oriental Bluesky Titanium Technology Co., Ltd. located in Yantai provides titanium alloy fasteners for C919 aircraft; and National Supercomputer Center in Jinan provides high performance computing service for C919 program. The industry driving effect of civil aircraft programs represented by C919 and ARJ21 has appeared preliminarily, injecting new vitality to local economic development and scientific and technological innovation.
