The 52th International Paris Air Show was opened on June 19th, 2017. Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), having attended Paris Air Show for the fourth time, displayed their C919 and ARJ21 aircraft, and showcased the cabin layout of the Sino-Russian long-range widebody aircraft in public for the first time. This means that the marketing progress of the Sino-Russian long-range widebody aircraft is being accelerated, and indicates that COMAC is forming a marketing pattern of multiple programs developing concurrently for regional jet, single-aisle trunk liner and dual-aisle trunk liner.

As shown, the Sino-Russian long-range widebody aircraft has a standard three-class cabin layout including first class, business class and economy class, with seats for 280 passengers. COMAC would also carry out concentrated market promotion focusing on the potential customers of ARJ21, C919 and Sino-Russian long-range widebody aircraft at this year's air show.

Total orders of C919 aircraft which has just completed the first flight in Shanghai on May 5th have amounted to 600. EverBright Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. signed a Framework Purchase Agreement of 30 C919 aircraft with COMAC in Beijing on June 13th, making the number of C919 customers reach 24 and the total orders reach 600. C919 is the first single-aisle trunk liner independently developed by China completely in accordance with the internationally advanced airworthiness standards and the prevailing market standards. European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) accepted the application for type certificate for C919 in April 2016. At present, COMAC plans to put 6 test aircraft into flight test, and the second aircraft is trying to start flight test by the end of the year.

COMAC's ARJ21-700 aircraft, which was delivered to its first user Chengdu Airlines last year, will mark the first anniversary of its commercial operation on the 28th of this month. ARJ21-700 aircraft is a new short-medium range turbofan regional jet developed in accordance with international civil aviation standards, which owns independent intellectual property right and obtained the type certificate from CAAC on December 30th, 2014. It was put into commercial operation on June 28th, 2016 to fly round trips between Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport with a stop-over at Changsha Huanghua Airport, and has accumulatively carried more than 10,000 passengers by now. While ARJ21 aircraft is operating smoothly, continuous design and optimization are also made to the aircraft; music reproducer system and satellite communications system have been equipped, and cabin optimization and other work have been carried out. Up to now, a total of 413 ARJ21 orders have been obtained from 19 customers. According to schedule, COMAC plans to deliver more than five ARJ21 aircraft to its customers this year.

China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Co., Ltd (CRAIC), a joint venture of COMAC and Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), was established in Shanghai on May 22nd, 2017. The joint venture is mainly responsible for the operation of the new generation long-range widebody aircraft program jointly developed by China and Russia. At present, both sides have identified the development plan of the long-range widebody aircraft series, completed the preliminary definition of aircraft-level indicators, and clarified the range (12,000 km) and seat number (280) of the basic version. By using advanced aerodynamic design, large quantities of composite materials and a new generation of high bypass ratio turbofan engines to improve the overall performance, the direct operating cost is lowered by more than 10%. Recently, the program will enter into preliminary design phase, and consultation will be made with system and equipment suppliers.

Since its establishment in 2008, COMAC has systematically built six major platforms for civil aircraft development, enhanced the core competences of design and development, final assembly and manufacturing, customer service, airworthiness certification, supplier management, marketing, etc., and established and improved civil aircraft technology innovation system and civil aircraft industry system. With the market operation of ARJ21 aircraft, the first flight of C919 aircraft and the establishment of CRAIC, COMAC civil aircraft development has entered a new stage that development and operation are carried out in parallel, multiple models and multiple states are developed concurrently, and opportunity and challenge exist at the same time.
